My work mainly explores the realm of ocean life- and I enjoy capturing certain subject matters such as sea or landscapes, human figures within beach settings, and marine plants or animals. I describe my artwork as attempts to represent and genuinely depict the content that I am presented with as accurately and honestly as possible. The medium I use to accomplish my goal is oil paint on canvas. My inspiration for producing works based on these subjects is due to the fact that when I am painting these subjects, it returns me to a peaceful state of mind that feels like meditation. I am simply in the moment, painting my safe place. Additionally, since artmaking is an emotional process, I continuously create emotional and spiritual bonds with a blank canvas. I do my best to depict the appeal of beautiful complexities that we see in ocean life and living.
Rebeka Scott is a Latina-American artist, born and raised in Miami who is working for her Bachelor’s in Art and Masters in Art Education at Florida International University. Rebeka has worked with mediums such as acrylic & oil paint, ceramics, graphite, charcoal, and digital media, but is most proficient with oil paint. During the beginning phase of her artmaking, Rebeka only used graphite and charcoal, but once she discovered her love for painting, Rebeka began paint what she found most interesting—animals and marine life. Her main influence for her works was finding comfort in the beach through meditation in trivial points of her life. This inspired Rebeka to create works of art related to the beach, which she then transitioned into artworks relating to marine life, landscapes, and seascapes. This mindset allowed Rebeka to create a relationship between her and the canvas.
